The Lost Waves of Long Beach's DisneySea
When the Walt Disney Company purchased the Queen Mary and the Spruce Goose sometime around 1990, they were constantly looking for something to spiffy up the area, and attract more visitors.
Around the time that the idea of Westcot was being kicked around.....rumors started that Disney perhaps was becoming more and more interested in building a park in Long Beach California..... a park named Port Disney

As time went on...and the idea of Westcot eventually spiraled out of control, and was shut down by the company, Disney began to look even more seriously at the possibility of building a park in Long Beach....and the plans for Port Disney were drawn up. As time went along...the idea morphed into DisneySea....and the rumors became more and more intense. Yet, this idea got even less far than Westcot, and the plans, blueprints, and ideas were shipped to Tokyo...where the park is currently being built, and will open sometime around the Millenium.

Below is a usenet article written in 1995 that details the plans that were sent to Tokyo.....they are not much different from the finalized plans that are currently being built. The pictures below that are from the current plans for the park:

"Mermaid Lagoon is a whimsical section that features a carnival-type attraction that features Ursula from 'The Little Mermaid' and a unique bumper-boat attraction called Aquatopia."

"The American Waterfront is styled to look like a nice, 20th century city skyline, and on that skyline is a high-rise skyscraper that, unbeknownst to visitors, will contain the Tower of Terror (No mention of Twilight Zone was made). The only version of this attraction planned outside of the United States."

"The Arabian Coast features attractions based on the film 'Aladdin' as well as other newly created storylines for dark rides and shows."

"The Mysterious Island is a crater, craggy and imposing in the center of the park. Here, submarines shaped like the Nautilus dive into the deep unknown, and one can even take a Journey to the Center of the Earth. An attraction utilizing EMVs (Enhanced Motion Vehicles), this promises to be a heart stopping descent into the very ground below this island, culminating in an encounter with one of the largest Audio Animatronic creatures ever created."

Unlike the Tokyo version....this version was to feature a beautiful, bubble like centerpiece 'underwater castle' known as Oceana. Seen as the centerpiece of the first picture above, this would have been DisneySea's centerpiece castle. I have another picture of it floating around somewhere, and when I find it I will post it here. With few modifications....the version of DisneySea in Tokyo would have been exactly the same as the one in Long Beach.
